Hereafter Regional Juried Exhibition 2024 - OPEN CALL
Craft objects have long been a vehicle for processing and understanding emotions, celebrating life, and invoking memory. For this exhibition, Contemporary Craft invites artists working with craft media, (including but not limited to wood, metal, fiber, glass, ceramic, found object, and paper) to respond to themes of grief, loss, joy, healing, and mourning.
Wozzeck: The Opera That Created a Star
In the spring of 1960, Marilyn Horne was in the throes of a grueling performance schedule in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. She had recently announced her engagement to Henry Lewis and was in the middle of a firestorm of unwanted criticism from friends, family, and colleagues for wanting to marry a Black man. The stress, along with the German climate, resulted in illness.
Exhibit to Celebrate African American Voices
This February, in honor of African American History Month, the Marilyn Horne Museum and Exhibit Center will unveil a new permanent installation which explores the history and contributions of African Americans to music and classical performance. The rich, visual exhibit will be a part of the lobby displays at Horne Hall and will serve to broaden the scope of the exhibit center’s mission.
Four presenters took what many of us know of as a regional conflict which we call the “French and Indian War” involving the British and French Empires, as well as several indigenous nations and confederacies, and opened our eyes to a wider world conflict.
