SUNDAY FUN DAY: ASIAN AMERICAN & PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE
Celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage at the Museum with special performances by the Pittsburgh Xiaobo Waist Drum Dance Group and Tuika's Polynesian Island Magic. Plus, enjoy hands-on activities and cultural cuisine. Fun for all ages!
4th Annual Week of Kindness Special Event
Art Center is kicking off the week with a special event on Monday, May 20th in partnership with the Fred Rogers Institute and WQED Education. From 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., educators and caregivers are invited to stop into the Art Center to explore resources and activities inspired by the kindness of everyone’s favorite neighbor - Fred Rogers.
Flight 93 National Memorial Tour
On September 24, 2002, little more than a year after a United Airlines plane was hijacked by terrorists and crashed into a field in Somerset County, PA, the U.S. Congress passed an act establishing a memorial at the crash site, designating it the final resting place of the flight’s passengers and crew.

Polish Genealogy Workshop
The Detre Library & Archives at the Heinz History Center will host its first-ever Polish Genealogy Workshop featuring nationally renowned genealogists on Friday, May 31, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

LEGO® Camp
Join us for a week of LEGO® themed building challenges, artistic creations, and fun! Learn about the world of engineering while building models and testing simple machines. Create a brick self-portrait, then try painting with LEGO® bricks! Investigate different modes of transportation, then plan and design a brick town and trolley park with the help of LEGO Coding Express®.
LEGO® Engineering Camp
Join us for a week of LEGO® themed engineering challenges! Explore the world of engineering and the forces of physics, then compete to build the tallest towers and longest bridges. Design a paper airplane launcher, construct a working claw, and race rubber band-powered cars and wind-powered boats. Finish the week off by constructing a giant chain reaction contraption.
Way Back When Camp
Take a captivating journey into the past and discover what life was like in the 1800s and early 1900s! Spend the week immersed in the traditions of old, from playing timeless children’s games to creating vintage toys. Investigate historic foods and recipes, then explore the groundbreaking inventions and technology, like the steam engine and electricity, that paved the way for the world we know today.
STEAM Camp
It’s full STEAM ahead in a camp dedicated to all things science, technology, engineering, art, and math! Design, build, and test the tallest towers, longest bridges, and strongest structures. Explore the history of transportation from trolleys and trains to boats, cars, and planes.
ICE COLD
Participants will learn about endothermic and chemical reactions, the melting point of water, and will become ice investigators during this really cool session!
Extreme STEAM Camp
Unleash your inner innovator! Discover how science, history, and technology come together as we explore the past and plan for the future! Design and build electrifying inventions for a new “Smart Streetcar” using Makey Makey technology and then whip up a fresh batch of conductive playdough.
Splish Splash
Participants will have a hands on learning experience while learning how water can exists as a solid, liquid, or gas.
Hazy, Hot, and Humid
During this session, participants will explore the different effects heat can have on our bodies as well as the worlds around us.

Seven Years’ War Symposium

The Story of Whisk(e)y
This entertaining program will explore whiskey's origins, methods of production, definitions, and cultural and political influences. Enjoy one grand tasting across brands, styles, and regions. New Operator Training
This February, you’re invited to participate in our New Operator Training. This hands-on course will teach you how to operate our trolleys and start your process to qualify as a museum operator.

New to birding and don’t know where to start? Long-time nature enthusiast looking to improve your birding skills or learn about the birds in our communities? Then you won’t want to miss our program, led by Ben Kehoe, and in partnership with the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, Winter Birds and Where to Find Them on Saturday, January 20th here at the Heritage Center.
Trolleyology: The Long Careers of the Twin Cities PCC Cars
They started life in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul and are now one of the last fleets of PCC cars still in revenue service, having traveled far and wide. With lots of photos, Minnesota Streetcar Museum historian Aaron Isaacs will tell you their story, which started with a PCC that was supposed to go to Pittsburgh.
